Ms. Squier is an associate at Downs & Stanford, where she represents clients in Texas workers’ compensation cases. With over 15 years of experience across nearly every facet of the workers’ compensation system, Kara brings a valuable perspective to her practice having served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Texas Department of Insurance, Division of Workers’ Compensation and Director of the Texas Workers’ Compensation Appeals Panel.
Kara was an Administrative Law Judge for over a decade and presided over more than 1,500 contested case hearings. During that time, she held leadership roles, including Lead Judge for the Northern Region and Director of the Appeals Panel. She was also twice named Administrative Law Judge of the Year.
Kara brings a strategic approach to representing clients in Texas workers’ compensation cases due to her extensive knowledge and insight into adjudicative procedures and agency operations. Her knowledge stemming from her unique background allows her to effectively guide clients through dispute resolution, compliance, and litigation issues.
A respected speaker in the field, Kara has spoken at numerous conferences, including the State Bar of Texas Advanced Workers’ Compensation Course and the Workers’ Compensation 101 Course, as well as a presenter for the Texas Department of Insurance’s Comp Course. She has also contributed to continuing education seminars and Designated Doctor training hosted by the Division of Workers’ Compensation.
Kara is a member of the State Bar of Texas and its Workers’ Compensation Section. She received her J.D. from Texas A&M University School of Law and a B.S. in Business Administration from Louisiana State University.
