Mr. Canaday joins Downs * Stanford as a Shareholder after six
years with the Office of the Attorney General of Texas, where
he served as Chief of the Administrative Law Litigation Section.
In this position, he managed and litigated a variety of civil
disputes relating to state agency compliance and enforcement,
administrative contested cases and agency rules and rule-making.
Admitted to the practice of law in 1983, Mr. Canaday has represented
a broad spectrum of clients in general casualty, toxic exposure,
civil rights, and employment - related disputes; including workers’
compensation, Title VII, ADA and FMLA claims. Mr. Canaday presented
the landmark “same sex” harassment case to the United
States Supreme Court. Mr. Canaday offers first-chair trial and
related pre-trial and discovery experience, and governmental affairs
and legislative process experience.
